Privacy Policy
Last updated October 24, 2026
- We collect only what we need to run the tools, count free checks and manage your account.
- No ads, no third-party analytics or tracking scripts, and we never sell your data.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card number.
- Emails you send to the Mail Tester are deleted after 30 days.
- You can ask us to see, fix or delete your data at any time: support@puredns.app.
1. Who we are
Pure DNS (puredns.app) is operated by Your business legal name ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Questions or requests: support@puredns.app.
2. What we collect and why
Lookups you run (DNS, WHOIS, Blacklist)
When you look up a domain or IP address, we use it to answer your request. We don't save your lookups to your account or to a history. To get the answer, the domain or IP you enter is sent to outside services: the DNS resolver you pick (Google Public DNS, Cloudflare or Quad9), domain registries' WHOIS servers and rdap.org, and the operators of the blacklists we check (such as Spamhaus, Barracuda and SpamCop). Each of those services handles that query under its own privacy policy. Like almost every website, our web server also keeps standard access logs (page address, which includes the domain you looked up, your IP address, browser type and time) for a limited time, to keep the service secure and working.
Mail Tester
When you send an email to a Mail Tester address, we receive and store the whole message: its content, attachments, headers, the sender address and the sending server's IP address. We also record the IP address that created the test address. We analyse the message on our own server (including with SpamAssassin), check the sending IP and the domains in the message against public blacklists, and visit up to 20 links in it to see whether they work. The message and its results are kept for 30 days and then deleted automatically, or sooner if you delete the test. Anyone who has the link to a test result can view it, so please don't send confidential or sensitive information to the Mail Tester.
Counting free checks
To give everyone 5 free checks every 24 hours, we keep a count for your browser (a random ID in a cookie), your IP address and, if you're signed in, your account, along with the time of your first check. These records are deleted automatically about two days after your last check.
Site statistics
To see how the site is used, we keep simple daily totals: page views, unique visitors, how many signed-in members visited, and how many times each tool was used. Unique visitors are counted with the same random browser ID as the free-check counter, stored only in a one-way scrambled form and deleted after two days. The daily totals contain no personal information and are deleted after 6 months. We don't use any third-party analytics service.
Your account
If you create an account we store your username, email address, password (as a one-way hash; we can't read it), whether you've confirmed your email, and when you signed up, last signed in and last used the site. If you use Sign in with Google, Google shares your Google account ID, email address and whether it is verified; we don't receive your Google password, contacts or anything else. Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days.
Subscriptions and payments
Payments for Pure DNS Pro are processed by Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe's pages, and we never see or store your full card number. We store the Stripe customer and subscription IDs, the subscription status and the renewal date, so we know your plan. Stripe keeps the billing records (name, card details, billing address and invoices) under its own privacy policy.
Emails we send
We only email you for your account: to confirm your email address, reset your password, or tell you something important about the service or your subscription. We don't send marketing emails or share your address.
Security and abuse prevention
We record IP addresses against sign-in, sign-up and password-reset attempts to stop abuse (kept for up to 24 hours), and we keep error logs to fix problems.
3. Cookies
We use only our own first-party cookies. There are no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
| Cookie | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| pdsess | Keeps you signed in and protects forms from forgery | Until you close your browser or sign out |
| pd_vid | Random browser ID used to count your free checks and daily unique visitors | 1 year |
| mt_owner | Lets this browser see its own Mail Tester history | 1 year |
4. Who we share information with
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with:
- Service providers that help us run Pure DNS: our hosting provider, Stripe (payments), Google (only if you choose Google sign-in), and the DNS, WHOIS and blacklist services described above.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or us.
- A buyer or successor, if the service is sold or transferred. This policy would continue to apply to your information.
5. Where your information is stored
Our servers are run by a hosting provider, and the services above may process information in Canada, the United States and other countries. Those countries' laws may differ from yours, but we protect your information as this policy describes wherever it is handled.
6. How long we keep it
- Mail Tester messages and results: 30 days.
- Free-check counts: about 2 days. Abuse-prevention records: up to 24 hours.
- Daily site statistics (totals only): 6 months.
- Unconfirmed sign-ups: 7 days.
- Accounts: until you ask us to delete yours. Subscription records may be kept longer where tax or accounting law requires it.
7. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information, or ask questions about how we handle it, by emailing support@puredns.app. We'll answer within 30 days. If you'd like your account deleted, cancel any subscription first from your account → Manage billing, so that you aren't charged again. Depending on where you live (for example under Canada's PIPEDA, the EU or UK GDPR, or California's CCPA), you may have additional rights, including objecting to processing and data portability, and you can complain to your local privacy regulator. In Canada that's the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Where GDPR applies, our legal bases are: providing the service you ask for (lookups, Mail Tester, your account and subscription), our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and enforcing the free limit, and legal obligations (such as tax records).
8. Security
We use HTTPS, store passwords only as strong one-way hashes, keep our databases outside the public website, and limit sign-in and reset attempts. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique password for your account.
9. Children
Pure DNS isn't intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell signed-up users by email or on the site before it takes effect.
